St Nicholas Church, Pett Level

  • That is such great detail, Anne, and I shall include it on the pages if i may. The Revd. Moxon wrote that the Hastings Art School did the ceiling paintings over the altar. We also have the collection of material you gave us and the albums will be displayed at our coffee morning at Pett Village Hall on Wednesday morning 4th October.

  • How lovely to see St Nicholas on Pett Level so beautifully cared for.

My Grandfather (The Revd EA Parkins)was Rector of Pett from c1954 to c1970, and I can remember him returning to the Rectory for breakfast after holding a Communion service at St Nicholas after the 8am service at St Mary and St Peter. Mattins at the latter followed at 10.45, and there was also Evensong there at 6.30.

Grandfather was responsible for building the porch on St Nicholas and, I think, painting the interior. My brother remembers being drafted by by the Aunts (Mary and Judy Parkins) into cleaning the place.

My Grandmother showed me with pride the memorial window to the Revd Frederick Young, in St Mary and St Peter, which includes a model of St Nicholas in the hands of Christ, and told me that Grandfather had asked for it to be included.
