In 1940, after Hitler’s success in swiftly invading France, Belgium and Holland, he turned to plans to invade Britain. This was called Operation Sea Lion (sometimes written Sealion). These are some of the German aerial maps and photographs of the coastline from Hastings to Rye. The maps have bold lines depicting the area the photos cover. We can assume the photos were taken from 1939 to 1940. Hitler, unknown to us, cancelled Operation SeaLion at the end of September 1940.
